Les véritables motivations de la trahison de la Maison Oroborn resteront à jamais cachées, mais beaucoup parlent d’un malaise qui a saisi les Chevaliers de la Maison Oroborn dans les années qui ont précédé le [[Massacre du Site d'Atterrissage|Massacre d’Isstvan]]. C’est la peur qui les poussait à agir car, bien que peu de gens en dehors de la Maison Oroborn le sachent, l’affliction qui s’était abattue sur la maison avait été prédite par une ancienne prophétie datant d’une époque lointaine, annonçant une période de malheur au cours de laquelle la Maison Oroborn cesserait d’exister. Bien que la [[Vérité Impériale]] s’oppose à de telles croyances, il semble que la superstition ait tenu bon et que la Maison Oroborn ait fait tout son possible pour éviter le sort qui lui était réservé, alors que de plus en plus de [[Noble]]s revenaient avec des signes de maladie. ==Force Matérielle==
Les archives indiquent qu’avant que la Maison Oroborn ne se retire de la [[Grande Croisade]] et ne s’isole sur son monde natal, elle comptait près de 200 Armures de Chevaliers opérationnelles. Sur le champ de bataille, la Maison Oroborn privilégie le déploiement généralisé des Chevaliers [[Questoris]] selon des schémas variés, en s’appuyant sur les prouesses tactiques de ses Sénéchaux pour diriger les bannières appropriées afin de contrer les tactiques ennemies. La Maison des Chevaliers est également connue pour avoir compté dans ses rangs un nombre de Chevaliers [[Porphyrion]] supérieur à la moyenne ; lors de conflits prolongés, la Maison Oroborn sécurisait les zones d’atterrissage et établissait des bases de feu autour d’elles avec ses Chevaliers [[Acastus]]. Bien que peu de gens en dehors de la Maison connaissent les véritables raisons qui ont poussé la Maison Oroborn à la trahison, les preuves de la corruption étaient évidentes lorsque la Maison a réapparu aux côtés des forces du Maître de Guerre. Le ''Gardien du Devoir'', représenté ici sur les champs de rassemblement d’Irra vers 007.M31, représentait le changement le plus minime apporté à la Maison, les exemples les plus extrêmes impliquant un flux apparemment infini d’ichor s’écoulant des articulations de l’Armure. Lorsque la nouvelle de la trahison perpétrée par la Maison Oroborn parvint à l’Imperium, beaucoup doutèrent de la véracité de cette information, car la Maison avait autrefois une dévotion féroce à la fois pour l’Imperium et pour l’Empereur. C’est la Grande Croisade qui a relancé la Maison Oroborn, alors qu’elle était engagée dans une guerre séculaire contre des créatures Xenos et qu’elle était au bord de l’extinction. Sauvée de la mort par les armées de l’Imperium, la Maison a prêté serment de servitude éternelle, ses héritiers prenant place dans les Flottes Expéditionnaires en partance, alors même que les représentants du Mechanicum reconstruisaient leur monde brisé.

Les véritables motivations de la trahison de la Maison Oroborn resteront à jamais cachées, mais beaucoup parlent d’un malaise qui a saisi les Chevaliers de la Maison Oroborn dans les années qui ont précédé le Massacre d’Isstvan. Avec le temps, de nombreux Nobles de la Maison sont retournés sur leur planète d’origine, se rassemblant en grand nombre pour tenter de se débarrasser de l’emprise qu’ils avaient sur leur Maison. C’est la peur qui les poussait à agir car, bien que peu de gens en dehors de la Maison Oroborn le sachent, l’affliction qui s’était abattue sur la maison avait été prédite par une ancienne prophétie datant d’une époque lointaine, annonçant une période de malheur au cours de laquelle la Maison Oroborn cesserait d’exister. Bien que la Vérité Impériale s’oppose à de telles croyances, il semble que la superstition ait tenu bon et que la Maison Oroborn ait fait tout son possible pour éviter le sort qui lui était réservé, alors que de plus en plus de Nobles revenaient avec des signes de maladie. Craignant les représailles de l’Imperium, la Maison Oroborn s’est repliée sur elle-même, se cachant de ses devoirs et des regards indiscrets des autres. C’est alors que des agents du Maître de Guerre s’approchèrent de la Maison Oroborn, leur offrant le salut s’ils prêtaient un nouveau serment de fidélité au Maître de Guerre avant tout.

Le destin de la Maison Oroborn n’a pas été révélé avant de nombreuses années. Lorsqu’ils retournèrent sur le champ de bataille, ils le firent aux côtés du Maître de Guerre, se retournant contre l’Imperium dans leur quête désespérée de survie. Tragiquement, leur trahison ne fit que sceller ce destin, car la maladie qui avait frappé la Maison Oroborn ne fit que s’envenimer, corrompant tout ce qu’elle touchait. Ceux qui comptaient autrefois la Maison Oroborn parmi leurs alliés pleuraient en voyant la souillure de ses Chevaliers autrefois si fiers, car ce qui marchait aux côtés du Maître de guerre ne ressemblait guère à ce qu’il avait été, rongé par la peur et la souffrance jusqu’à ce qu’il n’en reste plus que des coquilles vides.[1]

Force Matérielle

Les archives indiquent qu’avant que la Maison Oroborn ne se retire de la Grande Croisade et ne s’isole sur son monde natal, elle comptait près de 200 Armures de Chevaliers opérationnelles. Sur le champ de bataille, la Maison Oroborn privilégie le déploiement généralisé des Chevaliers Questoris selon des schémas variés, en s’appuyant sur les prouesses tactiques de ses Sénéchaux pour diriger les bannières appropriées afin de contrer les tactiques ennemies. La Maison des Chevaliers est également connue pour avoir compté dans ses rangs un nombre de Chevaliers Porphyrion supérieur à la moyenne ; lors de conflits prolongés, la Maison Oroborn sécurisait les zones d’atterrissage et établissait des bases de feu autour d’elles avec ses Chevaliers Acastus. De là, les bannières des Chevaliers Questoris s’étendaient plus loin, frappant des cibles stratégiques clés avant de se retirer dans des Forteresses protégées.[2]

Bien que peu de gens en dehors de la Maison connaissent les véritables raisons qui ont poussé la Maison Oroborn à la trahison, les preuves de la corruption étaient évidentes lorsque la Maison a réapparu aux côtés des forces du Maître de Guerre. Chaque Armure Chevalier de la maison Oroborn présentait les signes de décennies de décrépitude, de nombreuses armures étant recouvertes de rouille, tandis que d’autres laissaient s’échapper des fluides nocifs de leurs articulations, chaque goutte corrodant tout ce qu’elle touchait. Le signe le plus tragique de la corruption était sans doute les fragments de Vox que les forces impériales recevaient lorsqu’elles tentaient de communiquer avec les Nobles de la Maison Oroborn, les cris d’agonie sans fin laissant présager le sombre destin qui avait frappé la Maison.[3]

Chevalier Cerastus Lancer, Gardien du Devoir

Les rangs de la Maison Oroborn comptaient peu de Chevaliers Cerastus, même avant la révélation de leur défection à la cause du Traître. Lorsque la Maison sortit de la réclusion qu’elle s’était imposée sur Irra, les quelques Chevaliers Cerastus qu’elle entretenait étaient considérablement délabrés, tachetés de rouille et lents dans leurs mouvements. Le Gardien du Devoir, représenté ici sur les champs de rassemblement d’Irra vers 007.M31, représentait le changement le plus minime apporté à la Maison, les exemples les plus extrêmes impliquant un flux apparemment infini d’ichor s’écoulant des articulations de l’Armure. Le Gardien du Devoir est tombé pendant la bataille pour le Monde-Paradis de Vizagor IV, après avoir mené une charge solitaire et suicidaire contre les canons loyalistes, alors que ses compagnons Chevaliers fuyaient le champ de bataille.[4]
